The Shaykh :
This day those who disbelieve have despaired of [defeating] your religion اليوم يئس الذين كفروا من دينكم
[Al-Ma'idah 5:3]
Allah is the Greatest. Look at the strength of the Companions in their faith and creed; it caused the disbelievers to despair of their religion, meaning they despaired of being able to divert them from their religion. This is because the Muslims had firmness in their religion, strictness toward the disbelievers, and mercy among themselves. Therefore, a disbeliever cannot attempt to infiltrate the ranks of the believers or reach their hearts or their deeds, because they knew that these people are a community that sees itself as distinct from and hostile to these disbelievers. So they despaired of what they could do to reach their religion. If you compare this great description of the Companions with the description of the Muslim community today, you will find that the difference between them is like the difference between their two times; it is a great difference. Today, the disbelievers have great hope regarding the religion of the Muslims, hoping to take them out of their religion and turn them away from it. For this reason, they strive with all their might, with wealth and bodies, and if they could, they would fight to take the Muslims out of their religion. But there will always be a group from this community manifestly upon the truth, whom those who fail them will not harm until the command of Allah comes. Otherwise, if you see their actions, may Allah protect us, and their reaching the peaks of the Islamic community to turn the Islamic community away from its religion, you will see a great matter. They have entered among the Muslims in culture, in morals, in private politics, in foreign policy, and in everything, in order to destroy the Islam that frightens them. And knowledge is with Allah, Mighty and Majestic, that it is not only their fear that the Muslims will harm them, but because they are the soldiers of Satan, who incites them and drives them hard against the Muslims. For we have two armies: one is the soldiers of the Most Merciful, and the other is the soldiers of Satan. Every disbeliever is a soldier of Satan. But Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said:
And [that] indeed, Our soldiers will be those who overcome. وإن جندنا لهم الغالبون
[As-Saffat 37:173]
However, we need patience; otherwise, the victory will be for the believers, no matter how long the time, if they are patient and mindful of Allah, as the Exalted said:
And if you are patient and fear Allah, their plot will not harm you at all وإن تصبروا وتتقوا لا يضركم كيدهم شيئا
[Ali 'Imran 3:120]
But there is no patience or mindfulness of Allah unless Allah wills. So I say that His saying, the Exalted:
the Day اليوم
Look, "today"—is this a circumstance for the present, the past, or the future? It is for the present.
This day those who disbelieve have despaired of [defeating] your religion اليوم يئس الذين كفروا من دينكم
[Al-Ma'idah 5:3]
If we are as the Companions, may Allah be pleased with them, were, then the disbelievers will despair of our religion and will not be able to penetrate our homes ever. But if they see a fragile structure, like the rind of a watermelon, if you touch it with the tip of your finger, it breaks, if they see this structure of the Islamic world, it is easy for them to reach the heart of the Islamic world. They have not despaired, but they are in hope. But I ask Allah, Mighty and Majestic, to bring the day when the disbelievers will despair of our religion by our strength and the strength of our faith, and that is not difficult for Allah. Then the Exalted said:
so fear them not but fear فلا تخشوهم واخشون
[Al-Baqarah 2:150]
Do not fear them, and let not their influence affect your hearts.
