Continuation of the explanation of His saying: “So do not fear them, but fear Me.”
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : This means do not fear them, and let them have no effect on your hearts. Fear Allah, for Allah the Exalted is the most deserving of our fear. [At-Tawbah 9:13] But how do we fear Allah? We fear Allah Mighty and Majestic by not being found where He has commanded us to be absent, and not being found where He has forbidden us. This is the fear of Allah. If we fear Allah Mighty and Majestic, then be assured, may Allah bless you, that everyone will fear us. It is they who fear us if we fear Allah and if we are mindful of Allah, they will be mindful of us. If we neglect the fear of Allah, we ask Allah to protect us and you from this neglect. If we neglect the fear of Allah, our dignity is lost, and we become tails and followers of those who are enemies of Allah and enemies of us. [Al-Mumtahanah 60:1] Glory be to Allah, look how He placed “My enemy” before “your enemy.” Someone might ask, why did He not say “your enemy” to stir up jealousy? So that our jealousy not be for ourselves, but rather, for whom? For Allah, before it is for ourselves. But let us not forget that these are enemies to us as they are enemies to Allah Mighty and Majestic. By Allah, they never want good for us, no matter what they say or how they adorn themselves. By Allah, they do not give us a penny unless they expect to take from us two pennies or a dinar. This is the reality. And we ask Allah to make them despair of us, just as He made them despair of our predecessors. [Al-Ma'idah 5:3]
