﴿ فَاسْأَلُوا أَهْلَ الذِّكْرِ إِن كُنتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ ﴾

Chapter: If the dog eats. And His saying, the Exalted: “They ask you what has been made lawful for them. Say: ‘Lawful for you are the good things and what you have trained as hunting animals, [teaching them] according to what Allah has taught you. So eat from what they catch for you’” — the game and the earners.

The Reciter: Chapter: If the dog eats, and His saying, the Exalted:
They ask you, [O Muhammad], what has been made lawful for them. Say, "Lawful for you are [all] good foods and [game caught by] what you have trained of hunting animals يسألونك ماذا أحل لهم قل أحل لكم الطيبات وما علمتم من الجوارح مكلبين
[Al-Ma'idah 5:4]
the game and the earners,
They earn اجترحوا
: they acquire,
which you train as Allah has taught you. So eat of what they catch for you تعلمونهن مما علمكم الله فكلوا مما أمسكن عليكم
[Al-Ma'idah 5:4]
up to His saying
Swift in reckoning سريع الحساب
, and Ibn Abbas said: If the dog eats, it has spoiled it; it only caught it for itself, and Allah says:
which you train as Allah has taught you. So eat تعلمونهن مما علمكم الله فكلوا
[Al-Ma'idah 5:4]
, so beat it and train it until it leaves it off. Ibn Umar disliked this, and Ata said: If it drank the blood but did not eat, then eat.
