If the lineage of some individuals to the People of the House is verified, what is our obligation toward them?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : What?

The questioner : There are people who say: “Our lineage traces back to the Household of the Prophet, for example: So-and-so, son of So-and-so, son of So-and-so, back to al-Zahra or to 'Ali ibn Abi Talib.” So what is our obligation toward them, whether they are righteous or wicked?

The Shaykh : In any case, if the claim of lineage is verified, they are from the Household of the Prophet. But I ask you now: The Household of the Prophet has the right of kinship with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), without doubt. However, if they are open sinners or disbelievers, they have no such right. Other upright Muslims are more deserving of that right than they are. But if they are like the others, they are more deserving, because of their kinship with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family).
