The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
This hadith and this athar clarify the right of the family of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). It has been mentioned previously that his family are: his wives and those of his relatives who are believers, from the descendants of 'Ali, the descendants of 'Aqil, the descendants of Ja'far, and the descendants of 'Abbas. They are those for whom charity is forbidden, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said to his uncle 'Abbas, when he asked him about charity:Sunan an-Nasa'i 2609Sahih (Darussalam).
And the family of Muhammad have characteristics that no one else has. In the matter of war spoils, they have a right that is specific to them, as the Exalted said:[Al-Anfal 8:41]: meaning the relatives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family).
And they have honor, nobility, and preeminence, so the obligatory charity (zakah) is not lawful for them, because it is the filth of people, as the Exalted said:[At-Tawbah 9:103]: so charity is not lawful for them. They are too noble and elevated for charity to be lawful for them, but they are given from the khums in place of it.
Then, in the hadith of Zayd ibn Arqam, he clarified that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said on the day of Ghadir Khum, which is a pool between Makkah and al-Madinah, where the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) stopped, and he gave advice and reminded them, and he urged them to the Qur'an, and he clarified that in it is healing and light. Then he urged them regarding his family, and he said:Sahih Muslim 2408a.
And he did not say: "My family are infallible, and their words are like the Qur'an, and it is obligatory to act upon them," as the Rafidah claim. For they are not infallible; they make mistakes just as others do, and they are correct just as others are correct. But they have the right of kinship, the kinship of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), as mentioned previously.
And his statement (peace and blessings be upon him):Sahih Muslim 2408a: means know their right, do not wrong them, and do not transgress against them. This is a matter of emphasis. Otherwise, every believing person has a right over his brother; it is not lawful for him to transgress against him or to wrong him. But the family of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) have a right that is greater than the rights of other Muslims.
And if this is the case regarding the right of the family of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), what can be said about the right of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him)?
The right of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) is the greatest of rights after the right of Allah. It must be prioritized over the self, the child, the family, and all people, in love, in exalting him, and in accepting his guidance. His guidance and his Sunnah (peace and blessings be upon him) take precedence over everyone. We ask Allah to make us and the Muslims among his followers, outwardly and inwardly.

Abu Rabiah binAl-Harith said to 'Abdul-Muttalib bin Rabi'ah bin Al-Harith and Al-Fadl bin 'Abbas bin 'Abdul-Muttalib: "Go to the Messenger of Allah and say to him: 'O Messenger of Allah, appoint us to collect the Sadaqat!' 'Ali bin Abi Talib came along when we were like that, and he said to them: "The Messenger of Allah will not appoint any of you to collect the Sadaqah."' 'Abdul-Muttalib said: "So I went with Al-Fadl until we came to the Messenger of Allah and he said to us: "This Zakah is the dirt of the people, and it is not permissible for Muhammad or for the family of Muhammad."'
