The questioner : Is it permissible to recite Surat al-Fatihah in supplication or at the end of supplication? And is that an innovation or not? May Allah reward you with good?

The Shaykh : Reciting al-Fatihah before supplication or at the end of supplication is a religious innovation (bid'ah), because it is not reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he would begin his supplication with al-Fatihah or end his supplication with al-Fatihah. And any act of worship for which there is no report from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), its introduction is a religious innovation (bid'ah).
Yes, it is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that al-Fatihah is a healing recitation (ruqyah), meaning it is recited over the sick to seek healing through it. This is a practical, tested matter, for reciting al-Fatihah over the sick is among the closest treatments to recovery.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.
