Does the creditor pay zakah on the full amount owed by the debtor, or only on the amount he has actually received?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Shaykh, if a man owes me a sum of one hundred thousand riyals, payable in installments, and I have received twenty-four thousand after a year has passed, and the time for zakah has come, do I pay zakah on the twenty-four thousand or on the full one hundred thousand?

The Shaykh : How can it be twenty-four thousand and one hundred thousand? How is that?

The questioner : They are installments over the year; I receive twenty-four thousand from him, and he still owes me one hundred thousand.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : So when the year is completed, do I pay zakah on the twenty-four thousand that reached me?

The Shaykh : Yes, pay zakah on the twenty-four thousand that reached you.

The questioner : Only.

The Shaykh : Only that. Then when the second year comes, pay zakah on twenty-four thousand. Then when the period is complete, pay zakah on what remains for all the past years.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : If you receive it, do you understand now?

The questioner : Yes, indeed

The Shaykh : Yes, no, I am finished. I am finished. There is no comment.
