What is the ruling on sleeping through the 'Asr and Maghrib prayers on the pretext of studying at night?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : May Allah reward you, Shaykh. Some of the brothers, during exam time, sleep through the Zuhr prayer and do not wake up until after 'Isha' so that they can stay up late to study. What is your opinion on this?

The Shaykh : And they sleep through the Zuhr?

The questioner : They pray the Zuhr, but they do not get up until after 'Isha'.

The Shaykh : And the 'Asr?

The questioner : They do not get up until 'Isha'!

The Shaykh : The 'Asr is the middle prayer!

The questioner : They do not pray it because of the studying.

The Shaykh : The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed the tribes when they kept him from it, but if a person is healthy, tired, and unable to resist because sleep overcomes him, let him combine the 'Asr with the Zuhr.

The questioner : ...

The Shaykh : You did not say combine; you said he prays the Zuhr and sleeps. I say: combining is permissible if it is difficult for a person to pray every prayer in its time, based on the hadith of Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father):
That the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) combined the Zuhr and 'Asr in Madinah without fear or rain. They asked: What did he intend by that? He said: He intended not to burden his Ummah. أنّ النّبيّ صلّى الله عليه وسلّم جمع بين الظّهر والعصر في المدينة من غير خوف ولا مطر، قالوا ما أراد إلى ذلك؟ قال: أراد أن لا يحرّج أمّته
This indicates that the basis for the ruling on combining is hardship.
