What is your advice for the upright and newly committed youth?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : What is your advice for a young man at the beginning of his commitment and uprightness, if Allah wills?

The Shaykh : What?

The questioner : What is your advice for young men at the beginning of their uprightness and commitment?

The Shaykh : For young men?

The questioner : At the beginning of commitment and uprightness, they are repenting to Allah.

The Shaykh : First: I ask Allah for his steadfastness and congratulate him for turning to uprightness, for this is the greatest of blessings. And I say to him: Be steadfast and continue in your commitment, strive to keep the company of the righteous, and leave the company of the corrupt. Indeed, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) compared companions with the best comparison and the best illustration, saying:
Abu Musa reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: The similitude of good company and that of bad company is that of the owner of musk and of the one (iron-smith) blowing bellows, and the owner of musk would either offer you free of charge or you would buy it from him or you would. smell its pleasant odour, and so far as one who blows the. bellows is concerned, he would either burn your clothes or you shall have to smell its repugnant smell. مثل الجليس الصالح كحامل المسك : إما أن يحذيك وإما أن يبيعك وإما أن تجد منه رائحة طيبة
Sahih Muslim 2628
This is correct; either he gives it to you for free, or he sells it to you, or at least you find a pleasant scent from him.
And the example of a bad companion is like the bellower of the bellows: either he burns your clothes, or you find a foul smell from him. ومثل الجليس السوء كنافخ الكير : إما أن يحرق ثيابك وإما أن تجد منه رائحة كريهة
Sahih Ibn Hibban 6:255
This is a perfect analogy. So I advise this brother who has committed himself to strive for good company, to stay away from bad companions, and to constantly ask Allah for steadfastness.
