When does the ma'mum say – Ameen?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : His EminenceThe Shaykh : I heard on one of the tapes of Imam Muhammad Nasir al-Din al-Albani regarding the issue of "When the imam says Ameen, you should say Ameen," where he was strict about it.

The Shaykh : And what did he say?

The questioner : He said: It is obligatory that when the imam says Ameen, you say Ameen after him. As for what you are saying: this is an error?

The Shaykh : You heard this, so do not dismiss his words. Now, the question is: Are you, or al-Albani, or so-and-so, or so-and-so, protected from error? No, we are not protected from error. Now, is Shaykh al-Albani's error more prevalent or his correctness? It appears that his correctness is more prevalent. Yes, this is among the things in which he erred, because his statement:
When the Imam says Amin, say Amin إذا أمن الإمام فأمنوا
Sunan Abi Dawud 936Sahih (Al-Albani)
is explained by the second phrase in the hadith:
When the imam says: "And not the astray," then say: "Ameen." إذا قال الإمام : ولا الضالين فقولوا : آمين
Al-Mustadrak lil-Hakim 5:69
When do they say it? After "and not the astray." So, with the imam, the meaning of
When he says "Ameen" إذا أمن
is when he reaches the place of saying Ameen, or
When he says "Ameen" إذا أمن
when he begins to say Ameen. Is that clear? Now, al-Albani's good deeds are more numerous, and his correctness is more than his error. I do not think he intended to commit an error, but he is a mujtahid like others. If he is correct, he has two rewards, and if he errs, he has one reward, and the error is forgiven. Yes.

The Shaykh : O Shaykh, in *al-Silsilah al-Sahihah*, in the sixth volume, the last volume that was published, he retracted it and said: It has become clear to me that one says Ameen after it.

The Shaykh : Praise be to Allah, this is the truth, if Allah wills. It does not become necessary in that order.

The questioner : I did not take a question, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : Now, is it from the guests or from the attendees?

The questioner : From the guests.

The Shaykh : Good, if Allah wills.
