What is the ruling on touching the mushaf for one in a state of ritual impurity?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : His EminenceThe Shaykh : What is the ruling on touching the mushaf for one in a state of ritual impurity?

The Shaykh : The correct view is that it is forbidden, and that it is not permissible for one in a state of ritual impurity to touch the mushaf except through a barrier. This is because of the hadith of 'Amr ibn Hazm, which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wrote for him, and it is a well-known hadith among the scholars that the Muslim community accepted:
No one may touch the Qur'an except one who is in a state of ritual purity. ألا يمس القرآن إلا طاهر
The pure one is the one who has purified himself from the state of ritual impurity, as Allah the Exalted said when mentioning the verse of ablution and dry ablution:
Allah does not intend to make difficulty for you, but He intends to purify you مَا يُرِيدُ اللَّهُ لِيَجْعَلَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِنْ حَرَجٍ وَلَكِنْ يُرِيدُ لِيُطَهِّرَكُمْ
[Al-Ma'idah 5:6]
As for the statement of those who said that the intended meaning of His saying:
except pure إلا طاهر
"except a believer," this is far-fetched, because when the Lawgiver intended to refer to a believer, He said "except a believer"; He did not say "except a pure one." Yes.
