Explanation of the Book of Foods-09a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Muhammad ibn al-'Ala' narrated to us, Abu Usamah narrated to us, from Burayd, from Abu Burdah, from Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said:
The example of a good pious companion and an evil one is that of a person carrying musk and another blowing a pair of bellows. The one who is carrying musk will either give you some perfume as a present, or you will buy some from him, or you will get a good smell from him, but the one who is blowing a pair of bellows will either burn your clothes or you will get a bad smell from him.
Sahih al-Bukhari 5534
.

The Shaykh : The author intended by this to clarify that musk is pure and lawful. It is said that musk is from a type of gazelle that waits for a period and is tied under its navel with a strong, tight binding after it runs. When it runs, blood comes out from the navel, then it is tied with a very strong binding until it dries. When it dries, it separates. When it separates and they open it, they find this musk inside, which is one of the greatest types of fragrances in scent. For this reason, al-Mutanabbi says:
If you surpass mankind and you are among them, *** then musk is part of the gazelle's blood.
He says, if you surpass mankind and you are among them, it is not strange that this musk comes from where? It is part of the gazelle's blood, from the blood. And yet, musk and blood are not the same. The scholars (may Allah have mercy on them) made an exception to the well-known rule indicated by the hadith
What is clear from a living thing is like its dead state. ما أبين من حي فهو كميتته
, saying: "Except for musk and its container. The container is the rat, and the musk is what is inside its belly."
