The Ruling on the Companionship of One Who Neglects Prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q348: The questioner asks: What is the Islamic ruling on keeping the company of one who is negligent in prayer?
A348: A Muslim should not keep the company of one who is negligent in prayer, unless he is advising him, treating him, and offering him counsel, in the hope that he will repent and follow the example of those who are diligent in prayer. However, if advice does not benefit him and he persists in his negligence regarding prayer, then he should not be kept in company, lest he negatively influence his companion. This is because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) compared the righteous companion and the bad companion, saying:
The example of a good pious companion and an evil one is that of a person carrying musk and another blowing a pair of bellows. The one who is carrying musk will either give you some perfume as a present, or you will buy some from him, or you will get a good smell from him, but the one who is blowing a pair of bellows will either burn your clothes or you will get a bad smell from him.
