The Shaykh mentioned the categories of dragging the garment and the details of each category.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And it remains for us to say: How many categories are there for dragging the garment? It has categories:
The first category: that it be out of arrogance, and its warning is that Allah does not look at its owner on the Day of Resurrection.
The second category: that it be due to an unforeseen circumstance where arrogance was not intended, but perhaps its owner is trying to benefit from it by keeping it close, so its ruling is that there is no harm in it, as this occurred with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and with Abu Bakr, where one side of his garment was dragged.
The third: that it be intentional and on a permanent basis, but not out of arrogance; rather, it is following the custom of people and his own kind. This does not carry the warning of Allah not looking at him, but it carries the other warning, which is that what is below the ankles is in the Fire.
So if someone asks: Which is greater, that Allah does not look at him, or that he is punished in the Fire according to his sin?

The questioner : The first.

The Shaykh : The answer is: The first is more severe, because this punishment is partial; he is punished according to the amount of the garment that fell. So if someone asks: Is it possible for the punishment to be partial? The answer is: Yes, it is possible, and its evidence is the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Woe to the heels because of Hell-fire. ويل للأعقاب من النار
Sunan Ibn Majah 453Sahih (Darussalam)
Here, the punishment was made specific to the heels because that is where the violation occurred, as the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) were once delayed by the 'Asr prayer, so they performed ablution but did not complete the ablution on their feet. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) called out at the top of his voice:
Woe to the heels because of Hell-fire. ويل للأعقاب من النار
Sunan Ibn Majah 453Sahih (Darussalam)
, and in al-Musnad:
Woe to the heels and the soles of the feet from the Fire ويل للأعقاب وبطون الأقدام من النار
Sunan al-Bayhaqi 1:296
because they had not completed the ablution. Yes, yes, 'Abd al-Wahhab?
