We advised our mosque imam not to recite the daily supplications aloud after the prayer, citing the disturbance it causes to the worshippers, but some of the followers requested the imam to recite the dhikr aloud

The questioner : Our imam used to recite the daily supplications aloud with the worshippers after every prayer, but some of the worshippers would leave immediately to pray the voluntary prayer. When the imam saw this, he told us: "Reciting the daily supplications aloud disturbs the worshippers, and that is not permissible, based on the saying of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him):
The reciter should not disturb the worshipper لا يشوش القاري على المصلي
" He refrained from reciting these daily supplications aloud and told us: "Recite them silently, each one individually." However, a major disagreement arose between the imam and the followers, and disorder appeared in the mosque among the worshippers. They demanded that the imam resume reciting the daily supplications aloud, but the imam insisted on reciting them silently. Which of them is correct, the imam's action or the followers' action? Please guide us, may Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : The imam's action, which is reciting the daily supplications aloud after the taslim, is a religious innovation (bid'ah), for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not recite them aloud after the prayer. However, he (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) did recite the dhikr aloud after the prayer. Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) said:
The people in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite the dhikr aloud after the prayer in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) كان الناس في عهد النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم يجهرون بالذكر بعد الصلاة على عهد النبي صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم
And he said:
We knew the finishing of the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) through takbir. ما كنا نعرف انقضاء صلاة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم إلا بالتكبير
Sahih Muslim 583b
meaning the takbir that accompanies the dhikr, because the dhikr includes saying: Subhan Allah, Alhamdulillah, and Allahu Akbar.
As for the daily supplications and du'as, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not recite them aloud.
As for the followers praying the regular voluntary prayers immediately after the completion of the obligatory prayer, this is also contrary to the Sunnah, for the Sunnah after the prayer is for a person to engage in the dhikr reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). Then, it is from the Sunnah for a person to separate the obligatory prayer from the voluntary prayer,
For the people were ordered not to pray one prayer after another until they go out or speak فإن الناس كانوا يؤمرون ألا يصلوا صلاة بصلاة حتى يخرجوا أو يتكلموا
.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.
