What is the ruling on women following funeral processions?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : What is the ruling on women following funeral processions?

The Shaykh : Women following funeral processions is forbidden, and I add to that that their visiting graves is also forbidden.
As for their visiting graves, it is one of the major sins, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed the women who visit graves.
As for their following the funeral, there is a hadith from Umm Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) in which she said:
We were prevented from following the funeral, but that was not made binding on us. نهينا عن اتباع الجنائز ولم يعزم علينا
Sunan Ibn Majah 1577Sahih (Darussalam)
. Some scholars said that this prohibition is a prohibition of disapproval, based on her statement: "and it was not made obligatory upon us".
Others said that it is a prohibition of forbiddance, because the criterion is the hadith, not what she said in her juristic understanding. The hadith is:
We were prevented from following the funeral نهينا عن اتباع الجنائز
Sunan Ibn Majah 1577Sahih (Darussalam)
As for her statement: "and it was not made obligatory upon us", this is her own juristic understanding. The default ruling for a prohibition is that it is forbidden, so women following funeral processions is forbidden, and this is the most likely position.

The questioner : May Allah reward you, O honorable Shaykh, and may Allah bless you and your knowledge, and benefit the Muslims through you.
