The Ruling on Wigs

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Now, if someone were to ask: What do you say about wigs?

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : Do you know what a wig is?

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : Yes, is it considered attaching hair or not?

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : Some scholars have said it is not considered attaching hair, because a wig is not hair attached to hair; rather, it is in the position of a head covering, as it is placed on the head, and the hair is underneath it.
And some scholars have said, rather, it is considered attaching hair. However, attaching hair can be done by tying the bottom of the hair to the attached hair, or by placing it on top and securing it with hair that is longer than the original hair. The criterion is the meaning, not the form.
So, if we say that a wig is attaching hair, then its use becomes?
The student: Forbidden.

The Shaykh : Forbidden, and indeed it is among the major sins.
