Explanation of the Book of the Hearts-05b
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Abu al-Yaman narrated to us, saying: Shu'ayb informed us, saying: Abu al-Zinad narrated to us from 'Abd al-Rahman, who told him that he heard Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) say that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Sahih al-Bukhari 6483
The Shaykh : He pulls them out
The reciter: He pushes them away, O Shaykh, a second narration
The Shaykh : A second narration? Yes
The reader:Sahih al-Bukhari 6483.
The Shaykh : This is also a parable struck by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding himself and his Ummah. A man kindled a fire, and when it illuminated what was around it, the moths and these creatures that fall into the fire began to fall into it, just as you see in the desert. When a fire is kindled in the desert, the moths and other insects come and fall into it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "So he kept pulling them out or pushing them away," meaning he drove them away, but they insisted on falling into the fire. This is the state of the Ummah regarding the commands of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). He says, "So I am holding you back," meaning I am that which holds you back from the Fire, while they plunge into it. This also contains the fact that it is obligatory for a person to know the magnitude of the blessing Allah has bestowed upon him through the message of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and that it is a means of salvation. But for whom? For the one who is saved by it, by staying away from what Allah has forbidden and doing what Allah has made obligatory.
My example and the example of the people is that of a man who made a fire, and when it lighted what was around it, Moths and other insects started falling into the fire. The man tried (his best) to prevent them
إنما مثلي ومثل الناس كمثل رجل استوقد ناراً فلما أضاءت ما حوله جعل الفراش وهذه الدواب التي تقع في النار يقعن فيها فجعل الرجل يزعهنThe Shaykh : He pulls them out
The reciter: He pushes them away, O Shaykh, a second narration
The Shaykh : A second narration? Yes
The reader:
The man tried (his best) to prevent them, (from falling in the fire) but they overpowered him and rushed into the fire. The Prophet (ﷺ) added: Now, similarly, I take hold of the knots at your waist (belts) to prevent you from falling into the Fire, but you insist on falling into it.
فجعل الرجل يزعهن ويغلبنه فيقتحمن فيها فأنا آخذ بحجزكم عن النار وأنتم تقتحمون فيهاThe Shaykh : This is also a parable struck by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding himself and his Ummah.
