The Sufis say that the wali reaches the degree of infallibility, so they consider it permissible to commit sins. What is your opinion on this?

The questioner : Some of the Sufis cite the hadith of the wali that was mentioned earlier, claiming that he reaches the degree of infallibility, so they consider themselves free to commit sins. What is your opinion on this?

The Shaykh : If they consider it permissible to commit sins, we say to them: You are not among the awliya (close friends of Allah). Allah has distinguished the awliya by setting a clear boundary between them and those who believed and were mindful of Allah. Is the sinner who considers permissible what Allah has forbidden a person who is mindful of Allah?

The questioner : No.

The Shaykh : In the first place, you have no status as awliya, you poor souls. You are the awliya of Satan, not the awliya of the Most Merciful. Any person who deliberately considers permissible what Allah has forbidden is undoubtedly among the enemies of Allah.
