Is the witr prayer obligatory and necessary, and is it performed immediately after the 'Isha' prayer or at any time during the night?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Is the witr prayer obligatory and necessary? And is it performed immediately after the 'Isha' prayer or at any time during the night? Please advise us, and may Allah reward you.

The Shaykh : The witr prayer is a confirmed recommended practice (sunnah muakkadah) and is not an obligatory prayer (fard).
Its time is from the 'Isha' prayer until the dawn breaks; whoever prays witr at any hour within this time, it suffices for him. Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said:
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would pray witr, or perform the witr prayer, from the beginning of the night, its middle, and its end. كان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم يوتر أو يصلي الوتر من أول الليل وأوسطه وآخره
.
However, praying witr at the end of the night is better for one who hopes to get up in the last part of the night, whereas for one who fears he will not get up, it is better to pray witr before sleeping.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.
