The reciter: And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our best Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.

Chapter: The Fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) that surges like the waves of the sea.
And Ibn 'Uyaynah said, from Khalaf ibn Hushab, that they used to recommend reciting these verses when fitnahs occurred. He said: Amr al-Qays said:
"War, in its beginning, is a young woman *** moving with her adornment to every fool
until when it flares up and its fire blazes *** it turns into a bald old woman
whose color is disfigured and changed *** and who is disliked for smelling and kissing"
.

The Shaykh : "War, in its beginning, is a young woman" means that a person approaches it, the fitnah, and finds in himself courage and the ability to spread fitnahs and engage in talebearing among people and the like of that. "Until when it flares up and its fire blazes, it turns into an old woman" meaning he hates it and wishes he had not done it. And so it is with fitnahs; we ask Allah for safety. At first, a person finds lightness in himself to ignite it and feels that he is giving himself some freedom, but in the end, he regrets it greatly and wishes he had not done it. And as he said: "Whose color is disfigured and changed, and who is disliked for smelling and kissing, or for touching and kissing" but "smelling and kissing" is more eloquent than ... and "kissing" means the unpleasantness of the appearance and the touch. The bald old woman, the very old one.
