Allah the Exalted says: "Our Lord, do not make us a trial for those who disbelieve." How can a Muslim be a trial for those who disbelieve?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Peace be upon you and Allah's mercy and blessings.

The Shaykh : And peace be upon you, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.

The questioner : Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, says:
Our Lord, make us not [objects of] torment for the disbelievers ربنا لا تجعلنا فتنة للذين كفروا
[Al-Mumtahanah 60:5]
The question, O Shaykh, is how can a Muslim be a trial for those who disbelieve?

The Shaykh : Yes, he becomes a trial for those who disbelieve through the dominance of the disbelievers over him, because the dominance of the disbelievers over the believer is a trial, a trial, in that they are incited to it and blamed for it, so that becomes a trial for them.
It is also possible that the meaning is
a trial for the disbelieving people فتنة للقوم الكافرين
, meaning that they tempt us away from our religion, as He, the Exalted, said:
Indeed, those who have tortured the believing men and believing women and then have not repented will have the punishment of Hell, and they will have the punishment of the Burning Fire. إن الذين فتنوا المؤمنين والمؤمنات ثم لم يتوبوا فلهم عذاب جهنم ولهم عذاب الحريق
[Al-Buruj 85:10]
The verse encompasses both meanings, because the two meanings do not contradict each other. The principle in exegesis is that if a verse is susceptible to two meanings that do not contradict each other, it is obligatory to apply it to both meanings. Yes.
