A sermon on wiping over the leather socks and the turban, and its conditions and invalidators.

The Shaykh : If there is a turban or a cap on the head that is difficult to remove, wipe over it instead of wiping the head, and wipe over the ears if they are exposed. If there is a leather sock or a sock (which is called a shirrab) or something similar worn on the foot, whether it is made of cotton, wool, leather, or other material that is permissible to wear, and whether it is thick or thin, wipe over it instead of washing the foot, subject to three conditions:
The first condition is that the item worn must be pure. It is not permissible to wipe over what is impure, because wiping over impurity only increases its contamination.
The second condition is that it must be put on while in a state of ritual purity. If it is put on while not in a state of ritual purity, wiping is not permissible. This is based on the statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to al-Mughirah ibn Shu'bah when he (may Allah be pleased with him) intended to remove the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) leather socks. He said:Sahih al-Bukhari 206 So he wiped over them.
The third condition is that the wiping must be for minor ritual impurity. As for major ritual impurity, there is no wiping. If a person is in a state of major ritual impurity, it is not permissible for him to wipe over the leather socks; he must remove them and wash his feet.
Among the conditions is also that the wiping must be within the specified time limit, which is one day and one night for the resident, and three days and their nights for the traveler. Safwan ibn 'Asal (may Allah be pleased with him) said:Bulugh al-Maram 61.
And 'Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) said:Bulugh al-Maram 62: meaning: regarding wiping over the leather socks.
The time limit begins from the first time one wipes after the occurrence of ritual impurity, and it does not begin before that. For example, if a person puts on the leather socks or socks for the Fajr prayer, then his ablution is invalidated in the forenoon and he does not perform ablution, and then he performs ablution for the Zuhr prayer at twelve o'clock, the time limit begins from twelve o'clock and not before that. This is because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) set a time limit for wiping, and wiping is not established except by its occurrence. If he becomes ritually impure and does not perform ablution, it is not true that he is one who wipes. Accordingly, the beginning of the time limit is from the first time a person wipes over the leather socks after the occurrence of ritual impurity. He continues to wipe until the same time on the following day if he is a resident, or until the completion of three days if he is a traveler. If he is a resident and wipes while a resident, and then travels before the completion of the resident's wiping time limit, he completes the traveler's wiping time limit. However, if a person is in a state of major ritual impurity, as we have mentioned, he must remove them and wash his feet along with the rest of his body. If the time limit is completed and the person is in a state of ritual purity, his purity is not invalidated by the completion of the time limit until an invalidator of ablution occurs, such as urination or something else. This is because there is no evidence from the Book of Allah or from the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) that ablution is invalidated by the completion of the time limit. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) only set a time limit for wiping and did not set a time limit for purity. He did not say: "There is no purity in the leather socks after a day and a night." Rather, he said: If a person wipes within the time limit before its completion, he has performed a prescribed ablution by the command of Allah and His Messenger. What is established by the command of Allah and His Messenger cannot be lifted or invalidated except by the command of Allah and His Messenger. Accordingly, if the time limit is completed, for example, before Zuhr, and you are in a state of ritual purity, continue and pray Zuhr. If the purity continues, pray 'Asr. If the purity continues, pray Maghrib. If the purity continues, pray 'Isha. This is because ablution is not invalidated by the completion of the wiping time limit. Similarly, if you wipe over the socks or leather socks and then remove them, your purity is not invalidated by removing them. Rather, you remain in a state of purity until an invalidator of ablution occurs, as indicated by the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). If you wipe for the Zuhr prayer and see that the weather is hot, and then you remove the leather socks, you may pray Zuhr. If the purity continues, pray 'Asr. If the purity continues, pray Maghrib. If the purity continues, pray 'Isha. All these prayers after removing the leather socks that you wiped over are valid, because there is no evidence that ablution is invalidated by removing the leather sock or sock. Just as if a person wipes his head and then shaves it after completing his ablution, his ablution is not invalidated, so too if he removes the socks or leather socks after wiping over them, his ablution is not invalidated by that. The difference between wiping the head being the original ruling and wiping the leather socks being a derivative ruling does not affect the invalidation of ablution.
O Muslims, perform ablution thoroughly. Perform ablution as Allah and His Messenger have commanded you. Whoever performs ablution thoroughly as Allah and His Messenger have commanded, it is authentic from the hadith of 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: This is because this person who performed ablution thoroughly purified his exterior, and then purified his interior by testifying that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
And from Uthman ibn 'Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih Muslim 245 Narrated by Muslim.

When we were on a journey, the Prophet (ﷺ) used to command us to wear our leather socks for three days and three nights, whether we had to answer the call of nature or slept. However, in case of ejaculation or sexual impurity, he commanded us to remove the leather socks.
And 'Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) said:
The Prophet (ﷺ) fixed the period of Mash (wiping) over the leather socks (Khifaf – plural of Khuff) for three days and nights for a traveller and one day and a night for the resident person in a town
جعل النّبيّ صلّى الله عليه وسلّم ثلاثة أيّام ولياليهنّ للمسافر ويوما وليلة للمقيمThe time limit begins from the first time one wipes after the occurrence of ritual impurity, and it does not begin before that.
