Is it from the Sunnah for a man to wear a ring on the ring finger or the middle finger?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : May Allah reward you, O Shaykh. Peace be upon you, and Allah’s mercy and blessings.

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace, and Allah's mercy and blessings.

The questioner : Is it from the Sunnah to wear a silver ring on the ring finger or the middle finger? Please advise us, and may Allah reward you.

The Shaykh : The ring finger or the middle finger is the same, and there is no harm in wearing it on either one. But is it from the Sunnah to wear a ring?
There is a difference of opinion among the scholars on this: some scholars said that it is a recommended practice (sunnah) because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wore a ring, and the Companions also wore one, but on the condition that it not be made of gold if it is for men.
And some of them said that it is a recommended practice (sunnah) for the one in authority, such as the ruler, the judge, the governor, the mufti, and the like, but for the rest of the people it is not a recommended practice, though there is no prohibition in it.
