What is the ruling on one who sings or repeats the poet's saying: "All of existence perishes except your love, O my homeland," without intending its meaning? And is this saying disbelief?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
May peace be upon you, and Allah's mercy and blessings.

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace, and Allah's mercy and blessings.

The questioner : What is your opinion regarding the verse of poetry that says, or the singer who says this verse:
"All of existence perishes *** except your love, O my homeland".
Is it, first of all, considered shirk (associating partners with Allah) or kufr (disbelief)? And is one who repeats this verse without intending its meaning considered a mushrik (one who associates partners with Allah) or a kafir (disbeliever)? Please inform us, and may Allah grant you success in what He loves and is pleased with.

The Shaykh : Yes, "All of existence perishes *** except your love, O my homeland":
"Existence" includes the Lord, Mighty and Majestic, because He is the Necessary Being. Therefore, the implication of this word is very serious and is kufr (disbelief). However, the one who says it may not know. Also, the obligatory thing, my brothers, the obligatory thing is that we should not be nationalists and we should not be tribalists, meaning we should not be fanatical about our tribe and we should not be fanatical about our homeland. Because nationalistic fanaticism, be aware, may gather under its banner the believer, the Muslim, the fasiq (open sinner), the fajir (wicked person), the kafir (disbeliever), the atheist, the secularist, the mubtadi' (innovator), and the Sunni. "Homeland" encompasses all of these. So if we focus only on nationalism, this is undoubtedly dangerous, because if we focus on nationalism, an innovator would come to a Sunni and say to him, "What do you and I share?"

The questioner : The homeland.

The Shaykh : Nationalism. You have no superiority over me, and I have no superiority over you. And this is a dangerous principle in reality. Focusing on being believers, this focus, do you understand?
As for the verse, you now know its ruling. If a person believes in its implication, that is kufr (disbelief). If he does not believe it but says it without knowing what its meaning is, we do not declare him a disbeliever because he does not know its meaning. But we forbid him from this verse and we also clarify that fanaticism for the homeland and that the bond between us is nationalism is absolutely incorrect. The matter does not stand unless the bond between us is what? Faith
The believers are but brothers إِنَّمَا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ إِخْوَةٌ
[Al-Hujurat 49:10]
, and it is not that "the citizens are brothers,"
The believers are but brothers إِنَّمَا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ إِخْوَةٌ
[Al-Hujurat 49:10]
and the verse was revealed in Madinah, and in Madinah there were Jews who were residents before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) migrated to it. Do they fall under brotherhood? I ask you?

The questioner : They do not fall under it.

The Shaykh : They do not fall under it, even though they are citizens. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) died and his armor was pledged to a Jew. So this is a serious matter, my brothers. The correct principle is that what unites us is our religion, Islam, and faith. And by this, we gain the Muslims everywhere. Yes.

The questioner : The question, may Allah reward you with good. Some intend by nationalism the saying of the Messenger, in its meaning, when he left Makkah, the meaning of the hadith is "You are the most beloved of lands to me"?

The Shaykh :
You are the most beloved of places to Allah إنّك أحبّ البقاع إلى الله
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not say this for the sake of nationalism. He said this because it is the most beloved of places to Allah.
And if not that your people had expelled me, I would not have left ولولا أنّ قومك أخرجوني ما خرجت
Al-Mustadrak lil-Hakim 17:182
He did not say it because it is a homeland.

The questioner : If his homeland had not been Makkah, he would not have said this.

The Shaykh : He would not say this, yes.
