The questioner : May Allah preserve you, O Shaykh: A man has a tailoring shop and has agreed with his workers, who work under his sponsorship, that he will take from them at the end of each month a sum of five hundred riyals, in exchange for the rent of the place where they work. It is known that the shop is rented in the guarantor's name, and the workers cover the shop's rent and electricity costs. They are content and pleased with this arrangement. May Allah reward you with good.
The Shaykh : This action is not permissible. That is, it is forbidden for a person to bring in workers, place them in this shop to work, and take from them five hundred riyals, or less or more, every month. This is because it is an injustice to these workers. A worker may earn five hundred riyals in a month, or he may not. Furthermore, I believe this is contrary to the regulations of the rulers, and obedience to the rulers is obligatory in matters other than sin.
