What are the regular voluntary prayers (rawatib)? And sometimes the prayer is called for and one has not prayed them, so what should he do?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : O esteemed Shaykh, what are the regular voluntary prayers (rawatib)? Sometimes the prayer is called for and one has not prayed the two rak'ahs before the prayer, which are among the regular voluntary prayers?

The Shaykh : The regular voluntary prayers (rawatib) are twelve rak'ahs: four before the midday prayer (Zuhr) and two after it, two after the sunset prayer (Maghrib), two after the night prayer ('Isha'), and two before the dawn prayer (Fajr). As for the ones that are before the prayer, if the prayer is called for and he has not prayed them, he prays them afterwards.

The questioner : He prays four rak'ahs after the prayer.

The Shaykh : So let us suppose that the prayer is called for before he enters the time of prohibition. We say: Pray with the congregation. If he prays with the congregation, the matter is clear. But if the prayer is called for and you are in the second rak'ah, complete it in a simplified manner, and there is no harm. How much is left?

The questioner : But do I pray two rak'ahs after the prayer? Four rak'ahs? Four rak'ahs?

The Shaykh : That is, if he misses the two rak'ahs before the prayer, he prays them after it.

The questioner : Four rak'ahs after the prayer?

The Shaykh : No, it is not four with a single closing salam. He prays two rak'ahs, then two rak'ahs. The first two are the two rak'ahs after the midday prayer, and the two after them are the two rak'ahs before the midday prayer.
