The questioner : If a man enters the mosque for the midday prayer and the second call has already been made, and he joins the congregation, and it is his habit to pray four rak'ahs before the midday prayer, does he make up these after the obligatory prayer, or are they dropped from him?

The Shaykh : Yes. If a person misses the regular voluntary prayer that comes before the obligatory prayer, he makes it up after the prayer. However, he begins with the regular voluntary prayer that comes after the obligatory prayer before making up the one that comes before it. So, in the example the questioner mentioned, if it is his habit to pray four rak'ahs before the midday prayer, and then he enters the mosque and finds the people praying, we tell him: when you have finished the prayer and you want to perform the regular voluntary prayer, perform the regular voluntary prayer that comes after the prayer first, then perform the two regular voluntary prayers that come before the prayer as a make-up. Yes.
