The reciter: And Abu al-Tahir narrated to me: Ibn Wahb narrated to us from Abd al-Rahman ibn Salman al-Hajri from Aqil ibn Khalid that Salimah ibn Kayl narrated to him that Kuraib narrated to him:
That Ibn Abbas spent a night with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) got up to the water skin, poured from it, and performed ablution. He did not use much water, nor did he shorten the ablution. He continued the hadith, and in it he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) made a supplication that night with nineteen phrases أن ابن عباس بات ليلة عند رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلّم قال: فقام رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلّم إلى القربة فسكب منها فتوضأ ولم يُكثر من الماء ولم يقصر في الوضوء وساق الحديث وفيه قال: ودعا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلّم ليلتئذ تسع عشرة كلمة
Salimah said
Kuraib narrated them to me, and I memorized twelve of them and forgot the rest. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Allah, place light in my heart, light in my tongue, light in my hearing, light in my sight, light above me, light below me, light to my right, light to my left, light before me, and light behind me. And place light in my soul, and make light for me the greatest حدثنيها كريب فحفظت منها ثنتي عشرة ونسيت ما بقي قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلّم: اللهم اجعل لي في قلبي نورا وفي لساني نورا وفي سمعي نورا وفي بصري نورا ومن فوقي نورا ومن تحتي نورا وعن يميني نورا وعن شمالي نورا ومن بين يدي نورا ومن خلفي نورا واجعل في نفسي نورا وأعظم لي نورا
