If the worshippers ask the imam to lengthen the sermon, should he do so?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : If people have become accustomed to lengthening the sermon, to the point where the worshippers themselves ask the imam to prolong it for them?

The Shaykh : It may be said that the saying of the Messenger of Allah:
A portion of his jurisprudence مئنة من فقهه
indicates that if wisdom dictates lengthening it, as when they themselves ask for it to be prolonged, it may be said that there is no harm in lengthening it. But in my opinion, it is better for people to leave a sermon or lecture saying, "I wish he had gone on longer," than for them to say, "This tired us out and he prolonged it for us."
