Is it permissible for a man to grow his hair long?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : He asks: Is it permissible for a man to grow his hair long, the hair on his head?

The Shaykh : I say: If there is a fear of fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) from doing so, such as if it is the head of a handsome young man and there is a fear of fitnah if he grows his hair long, then we say: Shave your head and do not grow it long.
As for if it is ordinary and no fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) results from it, the correct view is that the Sunnah (recommended practice) in this matter is for a person to follow the custom of his land. If people are accustomed to keeping their hair, he keeps it; and if they are accustomed to shaving it, he shaves it. This is because this is among ordinary matters, and in ordinary matters, it is best for people to follow the custom of their people, provided it is not forbidden.
