The questioner : He says in his letter: If the pilgrim arrives in Saudi Arabia and performs Hajj, is it permissible for him to look at his fiancée and sit with her? Is it permissible? I have given half of the mahr, and I do not have the contract in my possession. We ask you to clarify this. May Allah guide you.

The Shaykh : Looking at the fiancée is permissible, but on the condition that it is not in seclusion, meaning that he does not isolate himself with her in a place where no one else is present. Second, that he does not fear fitnah. Third, that his looking at her is not with desire. And fourth, that he is mostly convinced that she will accept. As for sitting with her and talking to her, this is not permissible because there is no need for it and no reason for it.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : There is a reason for looking at her, which is that it may lead to harmony between them.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : And that he marries her out of desire. As for staying with her, talking to her, or being in seclusion with her, this is not permissible.

The questioner : From Jordan, this letter reached us from Ma'dibat Falah al-Tayn. He says: May peace, mercy, and blessings be upon you, O honorable Shaykh who supervises the program and answers it. And after that.
