Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Hārūn ibn Sa‘īd al-A‘lī and Yūnus ibn ‘Abd al-A‘lā narrated to me, and the wording is Hārūn’s. They said: Ibn Wahb narrated to us, ‘Amr informed us that Muḥammad ibn ‘Abd al-Raḥmān narrated to him from ‘Urwah from ‘Ā’ishah, who said:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came in while two slave girls of mine were singing the song of Bu‘āth. He lay down on the bed and turned his face away. Then Abū Bakr came in and rebuked me, saying, “The flute of Satan is with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)!” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) turned to him and said, “Let them be.” When he was distracted, I nudged them, and they left. It was a day of festival, and the Black people were playing with drums and spears. Either I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), or he said, “Do you wish to watch?” I said, “Yes.” So he stood me behind him, my cheek on his cheek, while he said, “Onward, O sons of Arfadhah,” until I was tired. He said, “Enough.” I said: “Yes.” He said: “Then go.”

The Shaykh : May Allah send prayers and peace upon our Prophet Muḥammad. This was their play on the days of the festival. Look at the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) offering it to her:
Do you wish to watch? She said: Yesتحبّين أن تتفرّجي؟ قالت: نعم
, allowing her to do so, and remaining until she said it was enough. Do you see an example? If a woman asked us to go to the playgrounds, and amusements exist now, would we answer her or not?
The student: Depending on the situation.

The Shaykh : What do you mean, depending on the situation? First: Are these games forbidden or not? If they are not forbidden, then we must consider: Is there a fear that the woman will fall into what is forbidden, such that young men who are not good come, and there is a fear of fitnah (trial, discord or temptation)? If it is said yes, we say: Do not take her. And now, praise be to Allah, houses are large and spacious. A person can bring amusements into his house, such as swings and the like.
