The reciter: And 'Ali ibn Hajjaj narrated to me, Shu'ayb ibn Safwan, Abu Yahya, informed us, from 'Abd al-Malik ibn 'Umayr, from Abu Burdah ibn Abu Musa, from Abu Musa, who said:
When 'Umar was struck, Suhayb came from his home until he entered upon 'Umar. He stood beside him weeping. 'Umar said: "Why are you weeping? Are you weeping for me?" He said: "Yes, by Allah, I am weeping for you, O Commander of the Faithful." 'Umar said: "By Allah, you know that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Whoever is wept for will be punished.'" So I mentioned that to Musa ibn Talhah, and he said: "Aishah used to say: Those were only the Jews."
