The reciter: And Abu al-Tahir, and Harmalah ibn Yahya, and Harun ibn Sa'id al-A'ili narrated to me. Harun said: "He narrated to us," and the other two said: "Ibn Wahb informed us, and Yunus ibn Yazid informed me from Ibn Shihab, who said: Abu Umamah ibn Sahl ibn Hunaif narrated to me from Abu Hurayrah, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Sahih Muslim 944c.
The Shaykh : Among the things that are prescribed in accompanying the deceased and preparing them for burial is hastening: in washing them, shrouding them, praying over them, burying them, and carrying them. This is because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded this and explained that if the deceased was righteous, it is a good thing that you hasten to them, or he said: to them; and if they were otherwise, it is an evil that is removed from necks. However, the scholars said: this is on the condition that the death was not sudden. If the death was sudden, one must wait until the death is confirmed. Confirmation of death is known by signs recognized by those who frequently deal with the dead, such as the relaxation of the feet and the like, and the lower jaw also relaxes. Here, in modern medicine, the signs are clearer and more evident. The important point is that if someone dies suddenly, one should not rush to bury them, but rather wait until their death is confirmed. However, if the person was ill beforehand and it is known that they have died, it is better to hasten with them.
Hasten at a funeral, for if (the dead person) is good, you would (soon) bring him close to the good. And if it is otherwise, it is an evil of which you are ridding yourselves.
The Shaykh : Among the things that are prescribed in accompanying the deceased and preparing them for burial is hastening: in washing them, shrouding them, praying over them, burying them, and carrying them.
