The Book of Hajj-02a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: And Muhammad ibn Hatim and 'Abd ibn Hamid both narrated to me from Muhammad ibn Bakr— 'Abd said: Muhammad informed us— he said: Ibn Jurayj informed us— he said: Abu al-Zubayr informed me that he heard Jabir ibn 'Abd Allah (may Allah be pleased with them both) being asked about the miqat, so he said: I heard— I think he attributed it to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)— he said:
For the people of Medina Dhu'l-Hulaifa is the place for entering upon the state of Ihram, and for (the people coming through the other way, i.e. Syria) it is Juhfa; for the people of Iraq it is Dhat al-'Irq; for the people of Najd it is Qarn (al-Manazil) and for the people of Yemen it is Yalamlam. مهل أهل المدينة من ذي الحليفة ، والطريق الآخر الجحفة ، ومهل أهل العراق من ذات عرقٍ ، ومهل أهل نجدٍ من قرنٍ ، ومهل أهل اليمن من يلملم
Sahih Muslim 1183b
.

The Shaykh : This contains an addition, a significant addition, which is his saying: "and the other route." This means the one who goes from al-Sayf, the Sayf of the Sea, and then passes through the route of the people of Sham
Al-Juhfah. الجحفة
. In that case, he has not passed Dhu al-Hulayfah nor does he pass by it. However, if he comes from the original route, the first route, then as you know, it is obligatory for him to enter the state of ihram from Dhu al-Hulayfah.
