The Book of Hajj-03b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah, 'Amr al-Naqqad, and Zuhr ibn Harb all narrated to us from Ibn 'Uyaynah. Abu Bakr said: Sufyan ibn 'Uyaynah narrated to us. He said: Ayyub ibn Musa narrated to us, from Naba' ibn Wahb, who said:
We went out with Aban ibn 'Uthman, and when we were at Mulla, 'Umar ibn 'Abd Allah complained of an ailment in his eyes. When we were at al-Ruhay, his pain intensified, so he sent a message to Aban ibn 'Uthman asking him. He sent back to him: Apply myrrh to them, for 'Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding a man who suffers from an eye ailment while in the state of ihram: he should apply myrrh to them.
.

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
It has been established for us that it is permissible for one in the state of ihram to undergo cupping, but he should not undergo it unless there is a dire necessity, because cupping necessitates shaving his hair. If he shaves for this reason, he owes no expiation, because it was not transmitted from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he paid an expiation.
As for this, it is the permissibility of treating the eyes of one in the state of ihram. The reason those who commented on this specified the treatment of the eyes is that it is the only thing for which a Prophetic tradition was reported. However, it is permissible to treat his eyes, his ears, and the rest of his body, because there is no barrier to medication, except that he should not treat himself with anything containing perfume, because perfume is forbidden for one in the state of ihram.
Then he mentioned that it is permissible to apply myrrh to them—meaning the eyes—and myrrh is well known. Likewise, the word that follows.
