The Book of Hajj-04a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: And 'Abd ibn Humayd narrated to us, saying: 'Ubayd Allah ibn Musa informed us, saying: Isra'il narrated to us from Mansur from Sa'id ibn Jubayr from Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said:
A man was with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when his camel fell on him and he died. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Wash him, but do not apply any perfume to him, and do not cover his face, for he will be resurrected while reciting the talbiyah.
.

The Shaykh : All these wordings in these contexts indicate what was mentioned previously, but in some of them it is mentioned:
And do not apply hanut to him. ولا تحنطوه
. Hanut is a type of perfume that is placed on the deceased, applied to the eyes, nose, and mouth, and in the armpits. From this, it is derived that perfume is forbidden for the one in ihram. It is also derived from this that hanut is prescribed for one who is not in ihram, because his saying:
Do not apply perfumed ointment to him لا تحنطوه
indicates that it was their custom to apply hanut to him.
As for the addition of the face, most scholars hold that it is anomalous (shadh) because most of the narrators did not mention it, so some of them reported it alone, and it is not accepted.
Some scholars have said that it is not anomalous because this does not contradict what others established in which he participated.
So the additional wording is accepted, and there is no doubt that the precaution is not to cover his face either.
If someone were to say: If his face is not covered, it becomes a form of mutilation when we pass by him in front of people to pray over him and bury him, and his face may be in a state different from its brightness and beauty in life, it is said: It is possible to place a cover over it, as is done for a woman in the coffin.
