The Reciter: Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna and Ibn Abi 'Umar both narrated to us from Ibn 'Uyaynah. Ibn al-Muthanna said: Sufyan narrated to us from Hisham ibn 'Urwah, from his father, from 'A'ishah: Mishkat al-Masabih 2562.
The Shaykh : Did the commentator speak about the first hadith of Ibn 'Umar?
The Reciter: "His statement: 'From Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to exit via the path of al-Shajarah and enter via the path of al-Ma'ris. And when he entered Makkah, he would enter from the upper bend, and exit from the lower bend. It was said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) only did this variation in his path when entering and exiting to seek a good omen in the change of circumstances to something better, as he did in the festival, and so that both paths would bear witness to him, and so that their people would seek blessing from them. And our school of thought holds that it is recommended to enter Makkah from the upper bend and exit from the lower bend because of this hadith, and there is no difference whether this bend is on his path, like the one for the Medinan or the Syrian, or not, like the one for the Yemeni."
