The Reciter: Ubayd Allah ibn Sa'id and Muhammad ibn Abi 'Umar narrated to us, saying: Al-Muqri' narrated to us, saying: Sa'id ibn Abi Ayyub narrated to us, saying: Abu al-Aswad narrated to me from 'Urwah from 'A'ishah from Jadamah bint Wahb, the sister of 'Ikashah, who said:
I was with God’s Messenger along with some people when he was saying, “I intended to prohibit suckling during pregnancy* but I considered the Greeks and the Persians and saw that they suckled their children during pregnancy without any injury being caused to their children thereby.” Then they asked him about withdrawing the penis and God’s Messenger replied, “That is the secret burying alive” حضرت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم في أناس وهو يقول: لقد هممت أن أنهى عن الغيلة فنظرت في الروم وفارس فإذا هم يغيلون أولادهم فلا يضر ذلك أولادهم شيئا ثم سألوه عن العزل فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: ذلك الوأد الخفي
Mishkat al-Masabih 3189

The Shaykh : His saying (peace and blessings be upon him), "That is the hidden infanticide," is because by practicing coitus interruptus, he prevents conception, so it is as if he killed it, but it is not the apparent infanticide, because infanticide is the killing of children or the killing of females specifically. This is both apparent and hidden. As for the apparent, it is well known that people in the pre-Islamic age of ignorance used to kill daughters by burying them while they were still alive, may Allah protect us from that, as the Exalted said:
(58) And when one of them is informed of [the birth of] a female, his face becomes dark, and he suppresses grief. (59) He hides himself from the people because of the ill of which he has been informed. Should he keep it in humiliation or bury it in the ground? Unquestionably, evil is what they decide.
[An-Nahl 16:58-59]
he hides himself from the people
because of the ill of which he has been informed
[An-Nahl 16:59]
then he reflects to himself:
Should he keep it in humiliation or bury it in the ground?
[An-Nahl 16:59]
Allah the Exalted said:
Unquestionably, evil is what they decide.
[An-Nahl 16:59]
regarding both judgments, either keeping them in humiliation, meaning in disgrace and distress, or burying them in the earth, meaning burying them while they are alive. However, the Messenger did not prohibit that; he called it hidden infanticide, but he did not prohibit it. Do we say that this indicates what doctors have mentioned now, that sperm are living beings, because if he practices coitus interruptus and releases the fluid outside the vagina, this fluid dries up and disappears, and its spermatic nature or the property within it is lost? Do we say that this is evidence for what doctors have held now? It is possible, and Allah knows best. It is also possible that when he practiced coitus interruptus, it became as if he killed. Refer to the explanation.
The Reciter: "His saying (peace and blessings be upon him)
I intended to prohibit cohabitation with a suckling woman until I considered that the Romans and the Persians do it without any injury being caused to their children thereby.
Sahih Muslim 1442a
"
here, O Shaykh, or the hidden infanticide?

The Shaykh : The hidden infanticide.
The Reciter: "Then they asked him about coitus interruptus, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
That is the hidden infanticide
"
.

The Shaykh : And if you wish to treat us to this, there is no harm.
The reciter: Very well.
