The questioner : The following question asks: Is it permissible for a believer to marry his wife's sister, even though she is willing?

The Shaykh : It is not permissible for a Muslim to marry his wife's sister, nor her paternal aunt, nor her maternal aunt, based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), or rather based on the saying of Allah the Exalted:
Prohibited to you [for marriage] are your mothers حرمت عليكم أمهاتكم
[An-Nisa 4:23]
up to His saying:
and that you take [in marriage] two sisters simultaneously وأن تجمعوا بين الأختين
[An-Nisa 4:23]
. Even if she is willing, it is not permissible to combine them in marriage. Likewise, it is not permissible to combine a woman with her paternal aunt, or a woman with her maternal aunt, based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
One should not combine a woman and her father's sister, nor a woman and her mother's sister in marriage. لا يُجمع بين المرأة وعمتها ولا بين المرأة وخالتها
Sahih Muslim 1408a
.

The questioner : Yes.
