The Book of Faith-01b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Reciter: And Abu Bakr ibn al-Nadr ibn Abi al-Nadr narrated to me, saying: Abu al-Nadr Hashim ibn al-Qasim narrated to us, saying: Abu Aqil, the companion of Bahiyyah, narrated to us, saying: "I was sitting with al-Qasim ibn 'Ubayd Allah and Yahya ibn Sa'id. Yahya said to al-Qasim: 'O Abu Muhammad, it is ugly and a great thing for someone like you to ask about something from the matters of this religion and not find any knowledge or relief, or knowledge or exit, regarding it.' Al-Qasim said to him: 'And why is that?' He said: 'Because you are the son of the Imam of Guidance, the son of Abu Bakr and 'Umar.' Al-Qasim said to him: 'That is uglier than that, for one who has intellect regarding Allah, that I should speak without knowledge or take from someone who is not trustworthy.' So he remained silent and did not respond to him."

The Shaykh : Allahu Akbar. It is authentic, may Allah have mercy on him. "Uglier than this" means uglier than asking and not being answered, and I am hesitant to answer by speaking about Allah without knowledge, because speaking about Allah without knowledge is among the major sins.
Say, "My Lord has only forbidden immoralities - what is apparent of them and what is concealed - and sin, and oppression without right, and that you associate with Allah that for which He has not sent down authority, and that you say about Allah that which you do not know." قل إنما حرم ربي الفواحش ما ظهر منها وما بطن والإثم والبغي بغير الحق وأن تشركوا بالله ما لم ينزل به سلطانا وأن تقولوا على الله ما لا تعلمون
[Al-A'raf 7:33]
So it is among the greatest sins, and I seek refuge in Allah. And his saying "or taking from someone who is not trustworthy" is likewise; taking from someone who is not trustworthy is building on no foundation, because the report of one who is not trustworthy is not relied upon. So taking from him and relying on his narration entails speaking about Allah without knowledge. Yes.

The questioner : ...

The Shaykh : Supplication, yes.
