The questioner says: Is it not permissible to stand for the female teacher? And if it is not permissible, what should we do if this bothers the teacher? We had a student who did not stand for the teacher, so we asked her why she did not stand like the other students. She told us that it is not permissible, so a discussion took place between them. The teacher wanted to remove that student for two days, and we do not want to expel her. What should we do? May Allah guide you.

The Shaykh : Compelling students, male or female, to stand for the male or female teacher is one of the reprehensible matters. It was reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)Sunan Abi Dawud 5229Sahih (Al-Albani).
The questioner : Yes.
The Shaykh : The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), who is the most noble of creation in the sight of Allah in status and in the sight of the believers, disliked people standing for him and did not like it. It is sufficient for us to be like the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in this action, and to dislike what the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) disliked, and to dislike people standing for us. How is it fitting for us to compel people to stand for us?
The questioner : Yes.
The Shaykh : Therefore, school administrators, male and female, should prevent teachers from doing such things.
The questioner : Yes.
The Shaykh : Then, those above them in the Ministry or the Presidency should monitor this and issue a general prohibition of it, because this is contrary to what is prescribed, and it involves a type of enslaving the students.
The questioner : Yes.
The Shaykh : And humiliating them. It is sufficient for a student to show respect and good manners by being attentive to the teacher, following him in what he says, and discussing with him what is difficult for him. As for these formalistic matters that contradict the Shari'ah, it is not permissible for anyone to compel them.
The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes.
The questioner : So we hope that the officials in the Ministry of Education and the officials in the General Presidency for Girls' Education will take your guidance and advice into consideration.
