The reciter: And Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah, and Zuhayr ibn Harb, both narrated from Ibn 'Ulayyah. Zuhayr said: Isma'il ibn Ibrahim narrated to us from Abu Hayyan, from Abu Zura' ibn 'Amr ibn Jarir, from Abu Hurayrah that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was one day in the open with the people when a man came to him and said: O Messenger of Allah, what is faith? He said: That you believe in Allah, His angels, His books, the meeting with Him, His messengers, and you believe in the final resurrection. He said: O Messenger of Allah, what is Islam? He said: Islam is that you worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, establish the prescribed prayer, pay the prescribed zakah, and fast in Ramadan. He said: O Messenger of Allah, what is ihsan? He said: That you worship Allah as if you see Him, for if you do not see Him, He sees you. He said: O Messenger of Allah, when is the Hour? He said: The one asked about it is no more knowledgeable about it than the one asking, but I will tell you about its signs: when a slave woman gives birth to her master, that is one of its signs; when the naked, barefoot shepherds become the heads of people, that is one of its signs; and when the shepherds of livestock become tall in their buildings, that is one of its signs. In five matters about which no one knows except Allah. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recited: "Indeed, with Allah is the knowledge of the Hour, and He sends down rain, and He knows what is in the wombs. And no soul knows what it will earn tomorrow, and no soul knows in what land it will die. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted." Then the man turned away, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Bring the man back to me." They tried to bring him back but saw nothing. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This was Jibril, who came to teach people their religion."

The Shaykh : There is no doubt that this hadith, in its context, differs from the context of the first hadith from the narration of Kahmas, and that the first narration is more comprehensive. In this hadith, belief in divine decree is not mentioned, whereas it is mentioned there. In this hadith, belief in the meeting with Allah and the final resurrection is mentioned, and belief in the meeting with Allah is belief in the final resurrection. It appears that there is a difference among the narrators in this regard. Similarly, in the description of Islam, tawhid is mentioned: "that you worship Allah and associate nothing with Him," but the message is not mentioned. In the first wording, it is mentioned: "that you testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah." Also, in the first one, Hajj is mentioned, whereas here Hajj is not mentioned.
