The reciter: And Ibn Numayr narrated to me, saying: My father narrated to us, saying: Hanzalah narrated to us, saying: I heard 'Ikrimah ibn Khalid narrating to Tawus:
The Shaykh : The first wording, which comes before this, is considered anomalous (shadhdh), and it is the placing of the pilgrimage before fasting. The aspect of its anomaly is that it contradicts the majority of narrations, and it also contradicts the explicit statement of Ibn 'Umar that he heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say this hadith in this order, and he rebuked the man who placed the pilgrimage before fasting. These matters are all well known, so there is no need to comment on them.
That a man said to 'Abd Allah ibn 'Umar, "Will you not go out on a military expedition?" He said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Indeed, Islam is built upon five: the testimony that there is no god but Allah, establishing the prayer, giving zakah, fasting Ramadan, and the pilgrimage to the House."
