The reciter: The author (may Allah have mercy on him) transmitted, in the context of the hadiths in the chapter on the command to preserve the prescribed prayers, and the strong prohibition and severe warning against abandoning them:
"From Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Riyad as-Salihin 1075 Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim".
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
The author al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned in his book *Riyad al-Salihin*, in the chapter on preserving the five prayers and the strong prohibition and severe warning for those who abandon them:
He mentioned the hadith of Ibn 'Umar, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said:Sahih al-Bukhari 8 :And we have previously spoken about this, and this is counted as one pillar, because it returns to the validation of acts of worship, since no act of worship is valid except with the sincerity included in the testimony that there is no god but Allah, and the following included in the testimony that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, for this reason it was made one pillar.
As for the second, it is the establishment of prayer: prayer means the five prayers and what follows them of voluntary prayers, and what stands alone of voluntary prayers also. The establishment of prayer is among the pillars of Islam, and the obligatory prayers by consensus are five: Fajr, Zuhr, 'Asr, Maghrib, and 'Isha'. Jumu'ah takes the place of Zuhr, and as for what is other than that, there is disagreement: so regarding Witr, the scholars differed on whether it is obligatory such that a person sins by leaving it, or a recommended practice, or if there is a detail in it? And that is that whoever has a regular portion of night prayer must perform Witr, and whoever does not have a regular portion and only sleeps after praying 'Isha until Fajr, then Witr is not obligatory upon him.
And likewise, the scholars differed regarding the prayer of the eclipse: some of the scholars say: it is obligatory, and some say: it is not obligatory - do not lag behind your brothers, do not turn your backs on them - so some of the scholars say: it is obligatory, and some say: it is not obligatory, and the correct view is that it is obligatory, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded it, and he was alarmed when the sun was eclipsed, and he prayed a strange prayer, but it is a collective obligation, so if a sufficient number of the people of the town perform it, it drops from the rest.
And likewise, the scholars (may Allah have mercy on them) differed on whether the greeting of the mosque is obligatory or not? The view of obligation is a strong view, but hadiths indicating that the greeting of the mosque is not obligatory prevent certainty in it, such as the arrival of the imam on Friday, for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) would enter the mosque on Friday and ascend the pulpit and preach to the people and sit between the two prostrations and not pray the greeting of the mosque, and likewise the apparent indications of other reports indicate the non-obligation of the greeting of the mosque.
And likewise, the scholars differed regarding the two 'Id prayers: some say: they are obligatory, some say: they are a recommended practice, and some say: they are a collective obligation, so the important thing is that the prayers on which there is consensus of obligation are the five, and Jumu'ah is a substitute for Zuhr.
And the meaning of the establishment of prayer: that a person performs it in its times, completing its conditions and pillars and obligations, and completing that with its recommended practices, this is the establishment of prayer.
And as for the giving of zakah: it is giving the zakah to its rightful recipient, and zakah: is the portion of your wealth that Allah the Exalted has made obligatory upon you in gold, silver, and currency.
"From Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Islam is based on five (pillars): testifying that there is no true god except Allah and that Muhammad (ﷺ) is His slave and Messenger; performing of Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat); the payment of Zakat; performing Hajj (pilgrimage) to the House [of Allah (Ka'bah)] ; and Saum (fasting) during the month of Ramadan.
