Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, Abu al-Ahwas narrated to us, from Abu Husayn, from Abu Salih, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He who believes in Allah and the Last Day does not harm is neighbour, and he who believes in Allah and the Last Day shows hospitality to his guest and he who believes in Allah and the Last Day speaks good or remains silent. من كان يؤمن بالله واليوم الآخر فلا يؤذي جاره ، ومن كان يؤمن بالله واليوم الآخر فليكرم ضيفه ، ومن كان يؤمن بالله واليوم الآخر فليقل خيرًا أو ليسكت
Sahih Muslim 47b

The Shaykh : This is the same meaning as the first, but he said:
let him not harm his neighbor فلا يؤذي جاره
meaning: the honor should not be accompanied by harm, neither by boasting nor otherwise. And his saying:
let him not harm his neighbor فلا يؤذي جاره
is with a yā' in my opinion, and the requirement of grammar is to drop the yā', because the negative particle "la" is prohibitive, and when the present tense verb ends with a weak letter, the weak letter is dropped. Accordingly, what conforms to the rules of Arabic is to say: "fa la yudhi jārah" (so let him not harm his neighbor). However, there is a basis for keeping the yā', which is that the sentence is declarative, and the meaning is: "so he does not harm his neighbor." Thus, it is a command in the sense of a statement, i.e., a prohibition in the sense of negation.
