Also, his second question states that the Sufis, in their claim, say that the awliya (close friends of Allah) have the veils removed from them and they receive direct knowledge from Allah, which they call the innate knowledge.

The questioner : Also, his second question states, he says, that the Sufis, in their claim, say that the awliya (close friends of Allah) have the veils removed from them and they receive direct knowledge from Allah, which they call the innate knowledge. And when we opposed them, they cited what 'Umar ibn al-Khattab saw while he was on the pulpit regarding some of his scouts in the battlefield, and how he warned them of the mountain that was behind them, and that the divine knowledge that comes to them is something by which Allah singles out some of His servants.

The Shaykh : We say that every person who claims knowledge of the unseen is a disbeliever, and every person who believes him in that is a disbeliever, because Allah the Exalted says:
Say, "None in the heavens and earth knows the unseen except Allah, and they do not perceive when they will be resurrected." قل لا يعلم من في السماوات والأرض الغيب إلا الله وما يشعرون أيان يُبعثون
[An-Naml 27:65]
And the unseen of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, has not been revealed to anyone except to a messenger whom He has chosen, as Allah the Exalted said:
(26) [He is] Knower of the unseen, and He does not disclose His [knowledge of the] unseen to anyone (27) Except whom He has approved of messengers, and indeed, He sends before each messenger and behind him observers عالم الغيب فلا يُظهر على غيبه أحدا إلا من ارتضى من رسول
[Al-Jinn 72:26-27]
And these awliya (close friends of Allah) whom they claim are not messengers, nor are they awliya (close friends of Allah) as long as they claim what constitutes a denial of the Qur'an, because the wali (close friend of Allah) is one who combines the two descriptions that Allah mentioned in His saying:
(62) Unquestionably, [for] the allies of Allah there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve (63) Those who believed and were fearing Allah ألا إن أولياء الله لا خوف عليهم ولا هم يحزنون الذين ءامنوا وكانوا يتقون
[Yunus 10:62-63]
So these whom they call awliya (close friends of Allah), if they claim knowledge of the unseen, they are not awliya (close friends of Allah) but rather enemies of Allah, because they deny Him and what is established in the Shari'ah of His Messenger Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). As for their argument with what Allah honored the Commander of the Faithful (may Allah be pleased with him) with, this is not from the matters of the unseen, because this is a tangible, witnessed matter, but it was far from 'Umar's location, so Allah revealed it to him. This is not from the category of knowledge of the unseen, but it is from the category of matters that Allah reveals to whom He wills, and they are actual events.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Then, the Commander of the Faithful (may Allah be pleased with him) is undoubtedly one of the awliya (close friends of Allah) due to the combination of the two descriptions in him: faith and righteousness. But these awliya (close friends of Allah) who claim sainthood while being free from it, they are not to be believed. Then, if it is decreed that they inform of a news and the matter happens as they informed, then they are from the brothers of the fortune-tellers, if they are not fortune-tellers themselves, to whom devils descend and inform them of the news.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : And they lie with them as much as they wish of lies. Yes.
