Clarifying the Reality of the Awliya of Allah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The listener is Muhammad al-Talib from Libya. His message says: There are some who claim to be awliya (close friends of Allah), and they perform strange deeds, and some people believe them. So I ask you to clarify their reality?

Answer:
The wali (close friend of Allah) is the believer who obeys Allah and His Messenger. This is the wali of Allah. Allah the Exalted said:
Unquestionably, [for] the allies of Allah there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieveأَلا إِنَّ أَوْلِيَاءَ اللَّهِ لا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ
[Yunus:62], then He said:
Those who believed and were fearing Allahالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَكَانُوا يَتَّقُونَ
[Yunus:63]. These are the awliya of Allah. He the Exalted said in Surat al-Anfal:
and they were not [fit to be] its guardians? Its [true] guardians are not but the righteousوَمَا كَانُوا أَوْلِيَاءَهُ إِنْ أَوْلِيَاؤُهُ إِلَّا الْمُتَّقُونَ
[al-Anfal:34].
So the awliya of Allah are the people of taqwa (mindfulness of Allah), the people of obedience to Allah and His Messenger. They are the awliya of Allah. As for the superstitious and the sorcerers who commit sins or mislead people by claiming to be awliya through innovations, or by calling to the people of graves, or by praying at graves, or the like of that; these are not awliya. The awliya of Allah are the people of faith and taqwa who obey Allah and His Messenger. These are the awliya of Allah. As for the people of superstition and shirk (associating partners with Allah), or the people of bid'ah (religious innovation), or the Sufis who bring innovations that contradict the Shari'ah (Islamic sacred law); these are not awliya of Allah. Rather, the awliya of Allah are those who adhere to the obedience of Allah and His Messenger, and abandon what Allah and His Messenger have forbidden from innovations and sins.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
