The reciter: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.
Imam Muslim (may Allah have mercy on him) said in the Book of Faith, in the chapter on the evidence that loving the Ansar and Ali (may Allah be pleased with them) is from faith and a sign of it, and hating them is from the signs of hypocrisy:
Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, saying: Waki' and Abu Mu'awiyah narrated to us from al-A'mash. And Yahya ibn Yahya narrated to us, and the wording is his, saying: Abu Mu'awiyah informed us from al-A'mash from 'Adi ibn Thabit from Zirr, who said: Ali said, "By Him who splits the seed and releases the fetus, it is a covenant of the unlettered Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with me:As-Sunan al-Kubra lil-Nasa'i 60:50."
The Shaykh : We have previously spoken about loving the Ansar (may Allah be pleased with them) and hating them, and we said that if loving the Ansar is a sign of faith and hating them is a sign of hypocrisy, then the Muhajireen are even more so, because the Muhajireen combined migration and support. As for Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), he swore, and he is the truthful and pious one, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) covenanted with me:As-Sunan al-Kubra lil-Nasa'i 60:50.
And although Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) does not need to swear an oath to confirm what is established, Ali ibn Abi Talib combined migration, support, closeness to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), and the virtue of being among the early Muslims, and being the husband of the lady of the women of Paradise, and other of his virtues (may Allah be pleased with him).
And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him when he left him in charge of his family during the expedition of Tabuk, saying to him:Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 37:470.
So whoever loves him is a proof of his faith, and whoever hates him is a proof of his hypocrisy. And if this is the case with Ali ibn Abi Talib, and the Ummah has agreed that Abu Bakr and 'Umar are better than him, then Abu Bakr and 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) are like him or more so, so no one loves them except a believer, and no one hates them except a hypocrite.
The questioner : ...؟
The Shaykh : Those who exaggerate in his status and attribute to him a share of lordship, or control over the universe, or something beneath that, undoubtedly do not love him. And this is indicated by the fact that they contradict him in some of his views, for he (may Allah be pleased with him) transmitted, indeed narrated, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he forbade temporary marriage (mut'ah), while those who claim to love him permit temporary marriage.
Likewise, he narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wiping over the leather socks, while those who claim to love him do not consider wiping over the leather socks permissible.
Likewise, it is established from him himself that he said on the pulpit of Kufa:Musnad Ahmad 933Lts isnad is Sahih like the hadeeth above] (Darussalam), while those who claim to love him do not agree with him on this.
So loving the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and loving Abu Bakr, 'Umar, 'Uthman, and Ali is not in exaggerating in their status, but in truly following them.
